Chris N: "TIME is fun. You're with friends and serving other people in need."

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is this program about?

A: Tucker Interfaith Mission Experience ("TIME") is a nonprofit corporation that is funded through private donations. The purpose of the corporation is to roof homes in the Tucker area at no cost to select homeowners who demonstrate physical and financial need. TIME is a tax-exempt corporation under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.

Q: What are the requirements?

A: There are seven requirements:

1. The home to be roofed must be owned and lived in by the homeowner
2. All homes should be in Tucker, Georgia, or within a reasonable distance outside of Tucker.
3. Homeowners must have an annual income below the 50th percentile, which was $25,900 in 2008.
4. Homes must be only one story and have a moderate to low pitch
5. Homeowners must provide access to functioning electrical outlets during the work week
6. Homeowners must provide space for a portable toilet and dumpster
7. Homeowners agree to the public display of photographs and videos depicting their home during and after roofing repairs

Q: I am told that I do not have to pay anything for a repair made to my home. Is this correct?

A: Yes, as long as you (the homeowner) do not sell your home within the next year.

Q: Will I have to sign any other paperwork?

A: Yes. You will be asked to sign the following before repairs can begin:

1. This “Frequently Asked Questions” form
2. A “Work Approval Form” authorizing TIME to make roofing repairs to your home

Q: Will my current monthly mortgage payment increase?

A: No.

Q: Are there any hidden costs or conditions that I need to know about?

A: There are no costs for the homeowner. Homeowners must agree to the following conditions:

1. Photos and videos may be taken of the home for publicity.
2. TIME may display a sign in the home’s yard during the repair.
3. Repairs require a portable toilet on the property and a dumpster placed adjacent the home.

Q: Are the repairs to my roof guaranteed?

A: TIME’s goal is to provide you with a good quality, workmanlike roofing job. For this reason, we warranty the quality of our labor for a period of six months after completion of the work. In the unlikely event that there is a problem with our labor during that six-month period, our responsibility to you is limited to performing the labor again, at no cost to you. However, TIME is a volunteer, nonprofit organization and not a professional roofing contractor. For this reason, TIME disclaims all other warranties, express or implied, and TIME is not responsible for consequential damages, including water damage. Any problems with shingles or other materials installed by TIME are covered solely by the manufacturer’s warranty, if any, and are not the responsibility of TIME. If you experience any problems with the roofing labor done by TIME, then we ask that you give us prompt written notice.

Q: May I take a copy of the all TIME paperwork to my lawyer or an advisor?

A: Yes.

Learn about TIME and the various ways you can support this outstanding youth-driven outreach mission to the Tucker community.

Here's everything you need to know about the opportunities available to serve your community and make new friends through TIME.

Although TIME is youth-driven, there are plenty of opportunities for adults to serve the mission, both on the roof and on the ground. Can you help cook and serve meals one day a week, or chaperone one nights' sleepover? There's a place for you.

Please bless us by helping us bless you through TIME. This section has details and all the contact information you need to see if your home is eligible to be re-roofed as part of the TIME mission.

TIME couldn't serve the community without the generous support of sponsors, who provide building supplies, food, t-shirts, and financial and other support. Best of all, you know your contribution is going straight to work in the local community.

Did you say you can't hammer a nail and don't have time to serve a meal? You can be an essential part of our project by helping support a grandchild, neice or nephew, neighbor, friend, or other youth through the purchase of "Stock" in TIME's work.

See the story of TIME as told through by photograph, television report, and newspaper commentary. Please contact the webmaster for copies of photographs from 2008 and 2007.

In 2009, three churches and one school (from San Diego!) participated in TIME through their youth programs, and the gifts and prayers of their congregations and members. If your church, school, or group doesn't participate, don't worry. Individual youth who are not a part of a participating church or school are encouraged to be a part of TIME 2010, too.
